Fears and
Phobias
A fear or phobia put quite simply, a survival
response 'gone wrong'.
That is we have learned to respond to a cue from
our environment with the 'emergency response' we have available to us in a life
threatening situation. There are many and can include anything from a fear of
dogs, wasps, birds, snakes, buttons, flying, or even wrists (a phobia), or it
can be more generalised such as in agoraphobia (fear of open spaces), public
speaking or sometimes the cue is not even available to us on a conscious
level (panic and anxiety) whereby the response is the same but the fear is
associated with something more discrete

Our phobic responses don't make sense on a rational level because the
behaviour is not learned in our rational, 'thinking' brain. When we learn a
phobic response to something, the learning takes place very quickly in our
primitive brain,at an emotional level.
So in primitive times when we were being chased
by a man eating tiger, this type of response was incredibly important for our
survival, however in our modern day society and in every day situations, it can
be extremely debilitating, traumatic
and embarassing.
Over time, if this remains
untreated, we can go on to develop secondary unhelpful
behavioural responses like avoidance strategies and over dependence on
others or substances.
So it's
good to know we have such amazing survival responses available to us in life
threatening situations but what can we do when the response becomes faulty and
we begin to experience this survival response in every day situations like a
trip to the supermarket or the sight of a wasp?
Quite simply we need to change the experience at an unconcious level and
this can be done very quickly and easily using EFT, NLP and
Hypnotherapy.
